Neuropathies are conditions characterized by damage to the peripheral nerves, which may cause changes in sensation, balance, muscle strength, and proprioception. These manifestations can impair mobility, functional independence, and quality of life, as well as increase the risk of falls and other complications, especially in older adults.
In this context, aquatic physiotherapy is considered a relevant therapeutic approach due to the physical properties of water, such as buoyancy, viscosity, and hydrostatic pressure, which facilitate movement with reduced joint loading and greater safety. This modality may contribute to improvements in balance, functional mobility, muscle strength, and the ability to perform daily activities.
Furthermore, aquatic physiotherapy may help prevent falls, maintain independence, and improve the quality of life of individuals with different types of neuropathies. Therefore, this intervention represents a promising strategy in neurological rehabilitation, although its benefits should be considered according to the type of neuropathy, its clinical manifestations, and each patient's individual needs.
